Religion to women and to Satrapi's childhood.

Religion played a big part in Persepolis. Religion is what started all of this fighting and war going on during the time Marjane was growing up. I say that this book is mostly based on what the character's religious belief was, as for Marjane, she's going against her own religion. She knows what she wants and what is right for her. Some character believe that wearing a veil is what their religion tells them to do. Like example, the teacher at Marjane's school tells the girls to wear their veil which became mandatory for every women to wear it. which lead to demonstrations about wearing the veil. There were woman's who went against it and there were also women who are for it. I researched a little about to why Islamic women would wear veil and the answer to my question was that " was what god wanted". Other women who goes against wearing the veil is that it separates women from showing their self's and having to follow what men think is right from wrong. Martina Devlin wrote a article about how men adore women who wears the veil and respect them more then the women who doesn't wear the veil. i don't think that Marjane is making a big deal about the social commentary about religion i think that shes talking about what it can do to you and what can it make you become. What is the role of women in Persepolis. I think the role of women is so important on the story. it shows how each women in different situations can be strong no matter what happens. Marjane's mom is a strong person she believes and demonstrates for women rights and for general people's rights. Marjane's grandma is also a strong person who went through having her husband locked in jail and having to raise her kids on her own. The maid that worked for Marjane's family is different from the two , she is not a mother yet but she  strong for letting go her lover whom she loved and still live through the whole thing. All these women were Strong and stick to what they believed in. The women in Marjane's life are strong and will teach her to be one of them. In my life my mom is a strong person she made it through the Vietnam war and passed the Mekong river with my older brother and sister. To this day she is still strong she broke her arm twice in a roll but she is still using her arm to lift heavy things. But no one is always strong not when it comes to the flu. My mom can be a baby about it since she old and she gets really sick but her hopes are still up. Satrapi's voice in Persepolis is the most appealing book I've ever read for a graphic novel. It's so straight forward it makes me want to continue the story on and and on. Her tone of her child hood really makes me think that she is really playing the part. The ways she say things and the way she explain things to us. Plus the jokes that she makes is so childish that it does make me wonder when i say somethings like that. For example when she says she wants to become the next prophet makes me think how when we were kids how we would say we want to be teachers, doctors, mothers, and fathers. What i liked most of Marjane's is that she's  a dreamer she keep on to what she wants. Also she loves to ask questions and learn about her past history. I myself loves to learn about my parents past and how they were when they were teens. To add to that i never knew my grandparents so i always asked my parents about them and how they were and sometimes like Marjane's parents  it gets annoying to them.
